Stories Behind the Shirts

1970–71 · Achievement and memory
A Double in two colours
The first Double belongs to red and white, but its decisive Wembley image is yellow. One season needs more than one shirt.

1988–90 · Colour and occasion
Yellow at Anfield
The championship of 1989 was decided away from Highbury and outside Arsenal's home colours. A yellow shirt became the record of a precisely measured task.

2003–04 · The record in context
Thirty-eight, not forty-nine
An unbeaten season and an unbeaten run are related achievements, not interchangeable numbers. The Invincibles shirt sits at their intersection.
